Have you ever noticed how people have now accepted the fact that people are going to have sex whether we think they should or not? So what do we usually tell them? "As long as you use protection" Well that's the same about relaxers. (I know I know, but follow me on this one) I'm sure no one expects the relaxer to become extinct but what bothers me the most is that people don't use protection or use them properly for that matter. I always find it amusing when people go in on my chemical free hair and how I should take care of my hair... all while they have a rainbow of relaxer across their forehead. Sheesh at least apply right! Ugh, anywho...
For my short time in cosmetology wwaaayyy back in 2003 *feel free to giggle* we always experimented on each other's hair and of course putting a relaxer in was the best part of the day. And if someone let u put their relaxer in for them that meant you were really good because people trusted you with their most prized possession, their hair. The scary part of if all was when girls just slapped the relaxer in there! Like literally slapped. It should not make a sound when it hits your head. So of course I'm not saying get a relaxer but geesh, if you gonna do it at least do it right!!! Applying relaxers incorrectly is probably the main reason why so many people have Just For Me horror stories in the first place. Do I think relaxers are healthy for your hair? Nope, but not applying them properly doesn't help either.

| I googled a pic for "protection" and uumm yeah. This is a way better choice lol. |
(I tried to research for tips other than what's on the actual kit but it was mostly info from other bloggers... so here's my own tips)
Here's the Do's:
- FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON THE BOX!!!! I don't care what momma 'nem did, please read the directions before hand. Nothing worse than having acid on your head then you realize you missed a step.
- Use a brush to apply the relaxer, not your hands... It's a chemical that burns. Nuff said.
- Use all of the little protective jelly stuff before you apply it.
Here's the Don'ts:
- DON'T GET A RELAXER!!! jk, but no really....
- Don't put it directly on your scalp. Being worried about it not getting all your roots might work too good when your roots fall out.
- Only apply it to new growth. Worst thing is to walk in a salon full of white cone heads with an inch of hair poking out the top. Overlapping already relaxed hair causes breakage.
- If if burns.... wash it out. That's like your arm catching on fire and you just watching it burn cause you waiting for better results -_-
So once again, I'm definitely not saying get a relaxer... they're the devil. But just because we're natural sisters don't mean we can't look out for our sisters that are still on the creamy crack. If you know someone who is, tell them to at least use protection and do it properly.
