Many curlies use this product! Sierra and I both have used it at one point in our journeys!
Here are its ingredients!
Water, Stearyl Alcohol , Cyclopentasiloxane , Cetyl Alcohol , Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine , Dimethicone , Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract , Cocoa Nucifera Milk Fragrance Coconut , Glutamic Acid , Benzyl Alcohol , EDTA , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , Citric Acid , Blue 1.
NOTE: Ingredients are listed in the order of their percentage within the ingredient. For example, if water is the first ingredient, the product contains a high percentage of water. The top 5-7 ingredients in a product are, suggestively, the ones to focus on the most.
1. Water- Self explanatory. Most products are about "50-90% water".
2. Stearyl Alcohol- functions as a lubricant, thickener, and emollient. It's less greasy that plant or mineral oils, so it conditions with a velvety feel, without making hair greasy. When left in very curly hair it adds needed weight without being greasy.
3. Cyclopentasiloxane- A type of silicone known for giving a product slip. It helps detangling tools to glide through curly and kinky hair more easily.
4. Cetyl Alcohol- Helps keep products thick and mixed together. Keeps the product non-greasy.
5. Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine- Keeps products from separating.
6. Dimethicone- This is a silicone. Helps provide a smoothing effect, however, can be hard to wash out of hair. It also serves to prevent water loss which in turn helps to condition the hair and help retain moisture.
The remaining ingredients are low in their concentration and hardly worth mentioning. Many are fragrances or color dye.
Conclusion: This product is pretty good. If you're in to certified organic and natural ingredients, it certainly is not for you, as it contains many synthetic and man-made ingredients. This product will serve as a good product for detangling because it has great slip, however, it contains several silicones which are known for building up on hair. Make sure that you do rinse it out thoroughly!
PS if you bought this product for the benefits of coconut oil/milk, it contains the fragrance of coconut, not the actual ingredient.
Hope this helps! Let me know what other products you would like to see in this series!
