BLOGGIN': Are Complaints From Viewers Warranted?

So now that Taren916's video about Natural Vids Boring is become uber popular, everyone seems to have their two cents about the subject. This, of course, is perfectly fine because everyone's entitled to their opinion and I think it's important for bloggers and vloggers to get the feedback.

EXCEPT so many people are complaining about bloggers and vloggers and it's beginning to grind my gears.

Blogging/vlogging, contrary to popular belief, doesn't bring in big bucks, for most of us. So it's completely voluntary. For many, it's a sharing of thoughts or one's journey through life, whether it be through natural hair, health, etc. Everyone blogging or vlogging isn't trying to get your money or gain high ratings to get paid for their "service", so it's a little disheartening to read comments like:

  • "She's full of herself, no one wants to hear her talk so long."
  • "People talk way too long.. they need to edit."
  • "Everyone talks about the same thing"

1)  No one has a set viewer in their mind when they start blogging or vlogging. No one says, "this video MUST make so and so happy" Blogging or vlogging, most often, is for personal enjoyment or just sharing life's experiences, so who are we as readers to judge someone and say no one wants to listen. If the person or content isn't what's interesting you, "turn" the channel and keep it moving. Don't try and make accusations or start being a hater.

2) OK. I am guilty of rambling and talking too long lol, but at the end of the day, if I don't want to edit my video, that should be something I'm allowed to do. If no one watches or reads, that's fine because viewership isn't my main objective, and it isn't for many people. Editing can be a lot of work.. everyone's not Steven Speilberg, trying to produce some major film. I don't think it's fair to attack people for not editing.

3) There's no big blogger convention where you have to get your posts' and videos' content approved. Do you think everyone sits around and says, "hmmm so and so talked about this, so I'll do the same exact video?" Some people's videos do spur response and discussion, so I think repeated topics are fine. Every vlogger and blogger is different, so if everyone's sharing their thoughts, it's not the same thing. I, in fact, appreciate having a plethora of people's opinions about one thing because it helps me make a more informed decision.

So there. I've rambled. However I feel like I've said what I needed to say lol. You may be a disgruntled blog reader or vlog watcher, but bloggers/vloggers aren't some high paid celebrities getting paid for your viewership. They do it out of the kindness of their heart, on their own free time, because they enjoy it and want to share their thoughts. It's not fair for people to be so negative and complain about how unsatisfied and unappreciative they are... *sigh*

  1. i definitely agree with you i blog and vlog because i want and because i feel like it i could careless if anyone reads comments are anything its my way of expressing myself. I mean its nice to get feedback from someone going through and you helped them or they want advice but its not always expected you know! I think people just want someone to notice them when they begin hating like you said if you dont like it turn the channel think they wrote too much go to something else.

  2. Well said! I don't get why people don't just "turn the channel" or go on to the next blog. No one is forcing them to view or read anything. If your bored with the blogosphere, go get a new hobby... unless hating on blogs IS your hobby...

  3. Couldn't have said it better myself! You are on point with this one, as usual! All the negative comments and continual criticism of how someone chose to make their video is so unnecessary. Because honestly, if you don't like how the video is recorded or edited, I can guarantee there is a loooong list to the right with many others who have touched on the same subject, or attempted and tutored on how to achieve the same style, etc.

  4. Like everyone has mentioned, for the life of me I'll never understand why people leave those kinds of comments and don't just move to another video...or better yet, make their own.
