If I had a dollar for every time I had to sit at a table LONG after my family had eaten, trying to finish my vegetables, I'd be rich! LOL yep. I was that kid. Yep, the one in the picture, except a black girl lol. Forced to be miserable and eat peas and carrots lol. Every meal my family eats MUST have a meat, starch, 1-2 vegetables, and bread. The vegetables always killed me! LOL I could eat everything else, but those darn veggies would just be looking at me, prolonging my time at the table. My parents told me the vegetables would be good for me, so I needed to eat them... -__-
Surprisingly, I now eat just about, every vegetable there is, gladly. I drink 1 cup of spinach in my breakfast smoothies daily. Green vegetables have great benefits, however, the benefits of vegetables are really only achieved best when eaten raw. It's like, apple slices as opposed to baked apples. The baked apples are loaded with a sugar and cinnamon mix and cooked, whereas the slices are straight off the tree. This is the same for vegetables... My family is not a raw veggie family lol. I've never seen my family members pick up a vegetable and just chow down. We cook, barbecue, fry, marinate, etc. EVERYTHING and the same goes for our vegetables.
So to everyone making your beloved kiddos spend their nights at the dinner table eating vegetables that have been cooked to death, just know that there's very little nutritional value in them at that point. Yes, they're still healthier than french fries, but that shouldn't be the trade off lol.
There are LOTS of ways to"trick" yourself and your kiddos to eat veggies!
1) Green smoothies! I am such a huge fan of this because #icannot scarf down vegetables as though they are cheetahs. I just can't. But I through them in with some fruits, fruit juice, and yogurt, and I'm gameee!
2) Fruit/Veggie juices! There are plenty of juices and drinks out there that will give you 1 serving of the recommended intake of vegetables or fruits
3) Meal Mixin'! Maybe this is just me, but I throw things into any food that I cook. It's a habit lolololol. I go into "make-believe chef" mode and just start tossin. Tossing chopped raw veggies into your child's favorite casserole or meal, can be a nice subtle way to get them eating them. Just be sure you're not cooking them to death!
I definitely need to get into green smoothies. I make smoothies often but never throw any veggies in the mix.
