5 Things: Cristine!

Remember Cristine? She was featured last year back when she was transitioning!
Now that she's fully natural, here are the 5 things she wish she knew when she first went natural!

  1. Every product, practice, or trend [read bandwagon] isn't for me... but I can still learn something from it. For example, the no-poo method.. My hair likes shampoo. I need to shampoo my scalp/hair with actual shampoo and not an alternative. However, sulfate-free shampoos are now my fav because they get the job done without drying out my hair!
  2. You don't have to be a mixtress to have healthy, natural hair! I prefer my olive oil stay in the kitchen cabinet.. along with my avocadoes, mayonaise, and the occasional egg. Give me the pre-made DC please!
  3. My hair has multiple textures. It's kinky, it's curly, it's wavy, it's coily. My hair does it all! Finally acknowledging that allows me to work with my hair instead of trying to make it do something it won't do.
  4. It's not necessary to protective style 110% of the time to retain length and you don't have to aspire to waist length hair. I don't hate protective styling, but it's not my favorite thing either. I don't think long hair is unnecessary, I want longer hair some day. But I went natural to enjoy my hair and I've been doing just that! I wear my hair out 90% of the time and I've been trimming it to keep it around the same length [collar bone] because I loveee it short!..for now lol
  5. A 15 step, 24 hour regimen is not necessary. I thought I had to pre-poo, dilute my shampoo, shampoo, condition, detangle, condition, deep condition [preferably while sleeping], detangle, seal, and style my hair every week... that didn't last long! Who got time?! [pardon my grammar lol] Natural hair is only as difficult as you make it. I shampoo, condition/detangle, and deep condition and style once a week ... and still have a life!
