HAIR UPDATES: No More Deep Conditioning

I'm at that "almost 2 years and I'm lazy" phase with my hair. *shoulder shrug* And believe it or not, I think Freedom is really enjoying it!

As you know, I've been alternating between different wigs since May.I really do think this is the best thing I've done to my hair! In November, I'll go back to wearing my real hair, since it will be a longer length that will allow for updos and, get ready, A TEACHER BUN! lol

In the meantime...

I wash my hair once a week, if not twice a week. Most times I'm on the run and since I wash my hair in the shower, I don't feel like applying a deep conditioner, letting it sit, and then re-wetting my hair to rinse it.

I have my hair regimen down to a science and deep conditioning just isn't a necessity to me anymore. I'm achieving the same moisturizing effects without it.

Here's what I do! This process takes about 45 minutes, post pre-pooing.

-- pre-poo with Shea Moisture Purification Masque (leave in for at least 20 minutes while doing other things)

-- wash with Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo
-- oil rinse with coconut oil (purchased from the Vitamin Shoppe for $8.99)
--condition with Aphogee 2 minute Reconstructor
-- apply Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Conditioner as a leave-in
-- cornrow hair into 4 braids

THE END.

I am now choosing to pre-poo with the Shea Moisture masques as oppose to deep condition because it's better for my schedule. Most wash days, I wake up, take my braids out, and throw in the masque while I'm brushing my teeth, washing my face, eating breakfast, etc. Once all that's done, it's time for me to do my wash routine. This way, once I have applied my conditioner, I.AM.DONE. and don't have to worry about waiting on my deep conditioner to sit in, then get back under the sink to wash it out. I really hate the feeling of water dripping all down my face, so I try and minimize how many times I'm re-wetting my hair, after I've gotten out of the shower.

Thus far, it is working! #10thumbsup

  1. I haven't DCed my hair in over a month either. Just doesn't seem necessary since I cowash everyday. I'm glad you found something that works. I've been sporting the "teacher bun" pretty much daily for over a month. Loving the ease!

  2. I hate having to run back in the shower to rinse out a DC too, sometimes instead I wash my hair right when I get in the shower, then apply my DC and then a shower cap and let it sit while Im showering and then rinse my hair after Im done, so its like a mini steam session

BTW, I am hosting a giveaway on my blog for Seisyn Jewelry...you can enter here: http://curlychellez.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-1-year-curliversary-giveaway.html

  3. I believe that deep conditioning our type of hair is an absolute necessity. After a few months of not deep conditioning, your hair will get weaker. Deep conditioning with heat gives individual hair strands internal weight and strength: The heat forces the cuticle "open" so that the nutrients can get inside the hair's shaft. I, too, don't like having to get back in the shower to re-rinse my hair, so I found a solution: I use my cordless heat cap. I heat it up before going in the shower. Shampoo, rinse, apply deep conditioner and then pop my heat cap on. I go about my weekly "spa" routine: shaving, pumice feet, sugar scrub, etc. By the end of the shower, it's time to remove the cap and rinse (always let hair cool for five minutes before rinsing, to allow the cuticles to close). This is a link to the heat cap: http://www.brenditasbodyworks.com/shop/hair-care/the-best-hair-therapy-wrap-cordless-conditioning-heat-cap--Phat_Head-Cordless_Heat_Caps.html

    I hope this helps!
