Today's Menu: Childhood Food Memories

This week our Professor ("Chef") gave us an assignment that brought back some fond childhood memories. The question he asked was... "What is one of your favorite and least favorite childhood memories?" Boy did the wheels start turning. He actually wanted us to decide on ONE to write and talk about. I knew that was going to be difficult.
So there I sat at my computer for a few minutes, thinking and laughing to myself about a few of those memories. Of course one that came to mind first was a least favorite. Okay my father (God bless his heart) ...let's just say is not the greatest cook in the world. I remember one time my mother was working or something and he had to fix my brother, cousin and I something to eat. Have anyone heard of Spam?? Yes, yes...spam and crackers. I must say I will never forget that! Lord knows he tried and that's all that matters right?. (Love you Daddy) Now I have plenty other memories but for some reason that one always pops in my head first. LOL
Okay on to a favorite memory....my parents are from the south and we would always go "home" and visit all my grand parents and other family members. Now my grandmother (God rest her soul) would always make sure she bought and stocked up on these cookies we loved. They were Jackson Lemon Cookies and she kept them in her right cabinet at the top. I remember walking into their home, hugging them, listening to them tell us how much we've grown and the entire time my brother and I were itching to get in that kitchen and open the cabinets to make sure those lemon cookies were there. She never failed us. She always made sure we had enough for our stay, the ride home, and then some. Gotta love grand parents.
I thought that was a good assignment. It was interesting to hear all my classmates talk about their memories. It sort of connected us in a way. Food seems to do that doesn't it?
What are some of your favorite and least favorite memories of food growing up? I would love to hear about them...please share. Until next time.
