We naturals, and even relaxies, tend to buy lots of products in search of the perfect one. The perfect gel, the perfect comb, the perfect conditioner, etc. I have about 5 conditioners on deck right now lol (from the past 14 months though!). My hair products have overtaken the shower and since my shower looks so full, I forget that I have no shaving cream. *smacks head*
Well, a few months ago I recalled that conditioner can be used as shaving cream, which made me soo happy because I had conditioners already and had no money for shaving cream lol. I googled it to make sure that it was a good idea.
Here's why it's a good idea:
- "Shaving cream creates a layer between the razor and your skin while protecting from nicks and cuts. Conditioners work just as well and they moisturize while you shave. "
- Many conditioners are cheaper than the average shaving cream. Think Suave conditioner for $0.99.
- Conditioners will help to moisturize your skin.
- Conditioners, in most cases, are the perfect texture for shaving use. Think about how thick your shaving cream is. It can be hard for your razor to sift through the thickness of the cream to get to what you are trying to shave.
- Conditioners often have better ingredients for your skin. Think about many conditioners have jumped into using shea butter, coconut milk/oil, olive oil, etc. Shaving cream companies haven't joined the bandwagon yet to put them into their products lol.
- Using the conditioner that you didn't like is more economical than throwing it away brand new or barely used.
- Conditioner helps to soften the hair before shaving which makes it easier to remove. (Using conditioner first may be a good idea even if you're using shaving cream!)
1) If your conditioner is thick, dilute it with water a little. The thick lather could clog up your razor.
2) Don't use conditioner on your face for shaving? Nor should you ever shave your face lol. But I read that tip on another site and felt I would be doing you all wrong to not say it lol.
I didn't like my suave conditioner either, so thanks for the tip!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I'm gonna try this.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea but too late! LOL I threw all my cheap stuff out already. I use WEN by Chaz Dean, cleansing conditioner. I love this product so much (In Fig) that I don't know that I'll use anything else - although I did just purchase a sample size of a handmade black soap shampoo. We will see.
ReplyDeleteby the way, I found you on Facebook :-)
Michelle
Glad you all like the post! I can't believe so many people haven't heard of this! lol I thought everyone did it lol
