Benefits and Tips for Trims!

Y'alllllll, for the past month or so, my hair has been spllitttttt up! Every time I go to meet with my friend who trims it, our schedules conflict. Last week, I combed my hair and all of the shed hair was SPLIT! I could look in the mirror and see the ends split. It was crazy because when I was relaxed, I don't think I ever noticed a split end. Granted, I had plenty, but I don't think I ever paid attention enough to my hair to tell.

Anywho, I called my old hairstylist -_- and he agreed to trim my hair for $15. FIFTEEN BUCKS!?! That's crazy! I was expecting $5... it's just cutting some hair off, right? lol ($15 apparently is the going rate for a trim)
He blew my hair out (I had to ask him to tone down the heat on the blowdryer because I could see SMOKE!!!!!) and about 10 mins later, my hair was in a giant afro and I had about 30 mins to get to work -_-

OK so before I get off topic, the point is that my hair truly seems to be doing better now. The curls are better and it just feels better overall. Sometimes we like to hold on to our length, regardless of the condition it's in, but trimming, if needed, can benefit you so much!

Here are some benefits:
  • Retaining length
  • Improving the appearance of hair
  • Making hair even
  • Getting rid of split ends
  • Making ends thicker
  • Preventing split ends
  • Keeping the split ends from splitting higher up the hair shaft
  • Getting rid of damage
  • Removing knots if your hair is curly
  • Healthier hair
Not trimming your hair can, and most always will, result in thin ends, single strand knots, split ends getting worse, dryness, and frizzy ends.

Don't hold on to the length if you know it needs to go! Many people have shared that their hair grew faster after receiving a trim!

NOTE: Trimming is good, but don't OVER TRIM (see "Ways to Not Retain Length")! Many naturals suggest trimming only as you see it needed, or every 3-6 months. It depends on the condition of your hair and works best for you. My suggestion would be that if you're unsure, seek professional help!
