UPDATE: ONE DAY my hair will be long enough where even with shrinkage, it'll still look good. Tried it again today... still not there lol. I'll try again in a few months.
*inserts vomiting*
I had a day off of school yesterday and decided to try a wash 'n' go for the fun of it. When I first went natural last year, I liveeedddd off of wash 'n' gos and my hair thrived (As for how I managed to not catch a cold given how often I walked out with wet hair during the winter, I'm not so sure lol). As my hair grew longer and the problem of knots came, I have relied on stretched out styles like twist outs and braid outs.
Nonetheless, I tried it to see my growth -____- Here's the video.
So here's my reasons on why I hate wash 'n' gos on me!
1. Dripping hair on my clothes
2. Piling on gel to get a decent curl going
3. (potential) Product build-up
4. Detangling my hair just for it to curl back up on itself
5. SHRINKAGE!!! See pictures below
6. Because of the shrinkage, I am asked 100 times "What happened to your hair?" or "Did you cut your hair?"
7. The lack of staying power on the style... I can barely get day 2 hair, let alone day 3
8. After day 2, I have to rewash my hair to do a different style.
I look the same lol. Clearly, my hair is not the same length... *inserts pout*
No sense in working to grow longer, healthier hair just for you to look like you just cut it yesterday. So as for me, I will continue to not do wash 'n' gos... Maybe once Freedom grows a little longer, but as for now while I have "in between" hair, I will stick to my braid outs, twist outs and all of the other "outs" lol
Love it lol! love that you call your hair "Freedom" too :-)Thanks for sharing your journey, what did you use on your wash n go? I have a good friend who swears by that eco-stlyer gel and some grease!
ReplyDeleteI feel the EXACT same way. I used to rock my little afro puff, but a whole year later its still a "little" afro puff and no amount of gel, mousse, anything I put into it makes it look anything but nappy (type 3b hair was it?) You can pick it out and 30 seconds later its all knotted up again, and dont EVER sleep on it lol. keep it twisted sister
ReplyDeleteThe piling on of product/gel is what really keeps me away. I will try it out in the summer, see how it goes, but I don't think wash and gos will ever replace my twists to twist outs.
