Loosened Curls and Heat Damage

So call me slow, but whenever people say that heat damage will loosen your curls, I thought that that meant my 4B kinks would loosen up to become 4A or 3C.... -__- *inserts smack*

I've found out that that is sooooooooooooooo not the case! LOL
I did this video back after my straightened hair fiasco.

Well, I didn't do an update, but after I styled my hair in the form of a braid out after I made that video, I could tell something wasn't right. My braid out lasted for a good 5 minutes before it just frizzed up and became a big ush-bush. AND no, it wasn't the humidity. This was back when it was still pretty cold out and humidity was pretty low.

I thought maybe it was just me being crazy, but each and every time I tried styling my hair, the curl definition stayed for 0.2 secs before I noticed that it dwindled away.

Let me tell youuuuuuu.... loosening of the curls will not change your kinks to curls (nothing will; don't be fooled). "Loosening of curls" kind of glamorizes what happens when it comes to heat damage. It may not be the case for everyone, but for me, my curls are done for >__<. Okay maybe that's exaggeration. I still have some curl pattern...

I don't have any pics at the moment, but I'm struggling to style my hair like I used to because it doesn't hold anymore.

  1. Oh no! That sounds horrible! That's not curl loosening... that's curl destroying! :-(

  2. Heat damage stinks! I highly recommend doing a protein treatment. The Aphogee protein treatment is my favorite.

  3. Heat is from the devil. And a protein treatment won't help either. After the hair is heat damaged, the only thing you can do is cut it off and start over again. Damaged is damaged. Sorry you had to find out the hard way that heat is not a nappy girl's friend at all.

  4. OH NO!!! I am so sorry to hear about your heat damage! =[

Are you going to trim it?

On the other hand, I really enjoyed watching this video. You really allow your fun personality to show while you are taping.

  5. I never took "loosening of curls" to mean a good thing when talking about straightened hair. I figured that it was heat damage, and my curls being loosened by any process doesn't sound any type of way glamorous to me. I love my coils! So....yeah. Sorry about your heat damage though
