My mom recently had a milestone birthday and has decided to put together a bucket list of random activities that she wants to accomplish. I have become her partner-in-crime, or in this instance "partner-in-climb" lol, along with one of her close friends from church.
When she told me we were going rock climbing, my face went from :) to 0_0. When I say I'm scared of heights, it's an understatement. Piggyback rides make me nervous lol.
Nonetheless, I tried it. We arrived at the indoor rock climbing center, suited up, and got going. We were the only Black women in there, and to make it more embarassing, our "trainer" had us wear helmets lol. We all struggled on the first wall... it was a pretty tall wall, despite them calling it "short". I knew I wasn't going to get far though, so having my mom and her friend not get too high either made me feel good lol.
HOWEVER, we switched to another wall, and they tapped into their inner spider. My mom, who is 50 years old, climbed that wall so fast. So did her friend. So there I was, the 21 year old, who pretty much got one foot off the floor.
SO EMBARASSING!!! lol To make it worse, you pay for how many tops of the walls you get to. LOL needless to say, I was free.
To make it "worser", my mom, who is a music teacher, was teaching her students a song about Rocky Moutain the other day, and the lyrics say something like, climb the mountain, hang your head
I will conquer that wall one day! HMPH!
My arm muscles are like "NO!" to climbing lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is so nice on so many levels - first that you and your mom are partners in crime - that says alot about the relationship.
ReplyDeletesecond, that she actually wants to climb - age is nothing but a number.
third - that she made it to the top multiple times..I'm proud of her and i don't know her.
fourth - inspirational all around for you and her.
this made me smile :)
