NOTE: Ingredients are listed in the order of their percentage within the ingredient. For example, if water is the first ingredient, the product contains a high percentage of water. The top 5-7 ingredients in a product are, suggestively, the ones to focus on the most.
1. Water- Self explanatory. Most products are about "50-90% water".
2. Cetearyl Alchol- Used as an emollient, emulsifier, conditioner, and thickener. When left in very curly hair it adds needed weight without being greasy.
3. Dimethicone- The heaviest of all silicones used for hair care, they provide the most smoothing effect, but is hardest to wash out. Conditions by preventing water loss. Provides great slip.
4. Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine- According to my sources, caution should be used when seeing this product. It can be slightly corrosive and irritating if not neutralized correctly. Used to keep product from separating, but it can also be used to add slip and conditioning. It's known to cling well to the hair without being greasy.
5. Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil (Sweet Almond)- Moisturizing oil. Treating the scalp and hair follicles, preventing hair loss, providing shine and strengthening hair. Sweet almond oil eases itching, soreness and dryness
6. Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)- Used for moisturizing and softening. Shea Butter moisturizes and protects skins and scalp, especially with over processed and heat-treated hair. Helps restore luster to hair.
7. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera)- Used as a treatment for hair loss. Stimulates new hair production. May help fight against Alopecia. Helps to limit frizz. Helps hair feel smooth. Serves as a humectant. Doesn't leave hair greasy.
Most ingredients past the first 5-7 are low in their concentration and hardly worth mentioning. Many are fragrances or color dye. However, lemongrass, rosemary, lavender and jojoba are also listed as ingredients in this product.
Conclusion: I have not tried this product but have heard many people say that they love it. It can be found at many locations for less than $2.00. It appears to have a good mixture of man-made ingredients as a base with more natural ingredients infused within it. The ingredients in this product should give you great slip, however, the silicones in this product can be hard to wash out, so keep that in mind. I wouldn't recommend leaving this conditioner in for a prolonged time as it may lead to product build-up.
Hope this helps! Let me know what other products you would like to see in this series!

I was never a Suave fan but I'd be willing to try it.
ReplyDeleteI like to use natural as much as possible but let's face it, most of what we need for our hair and/or face has to have a little preservative for any kind of shelf life. Like you said, as long as it isn't in the first 7-10 on the ingredients list, I'm good :-)
aww thanks so much for breaking it down for me! yes, i bought it to cowash with after hearing good things about suave i have a HUGE one from walmart that was a little less than $3! i've used it once so far i do not like the salon pump version that i bought as i thought i would have. too much pumping.
