WIAP: Yes To Cucumbers Color Care Condtioner

Yes To Cucumbers Color Care Conditioner

TOOO many people rave about this product -__- lol

Here are its ingredients!!!!

Ingredients: Water (Aqua) , Cetearyl Alcohol , Behentrimonium Chloride , Cetyl Esters , Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract (Cucumber) , Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract , Dead Sea Water (Maris Aqua) , Maris Limus Extract (Dead Sea Silt) , Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera) , Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive) , Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil (Sweet Almond) , Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba) , Spirulina Maxima Extract , Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea) , Algae Extract , Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract , Punica Granatum Extract , Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride , Fragrance (Parfum) , Sodium Hydroxide , Sodium Benzoate , Potassium Sorbate

NOTE: Ingredients are listed in the order of their percentage within the ingredient. For example, if water is the first ingredient, the product contains a high percentage of water. The top 5-7 ingredients in a product are, suggestively, the ones to focus on the most.

 1. Water- Self explanatory. Most products are about "50-90% water".

2. Cetearyl Alchol- "Used as an emollient, emulsifier, conditioner, and thickener. When left in very curly hair it adds needed weight without being greasy."

3.  Behentrimonium Chloride-"Used for detangling and as an anti-static ingredient and emulsifier"

4. Cetyl Esters- "Used as an emollient, thickener, keeping products from separating, and to make them more opaque."

5. Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract (Cucumber)- Hydrates and nourishes hair. Cucumber is known to help promote hair growth, but I believe that's when it is taken internally, as opposed to topical use.

6. Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract aka Cornflower Extract- "Anti-inflammatory, skin conditioning agent and astringent"

7. Dead Sea Water (Maris Aqua)- Water from the Dead Sea is said to be mineral rich with many therapeutic properties....

Most ingredients past the first 5-7 are low in their concentration and hardly worth mentioning. Many are fragrances or color dye.

Conclusion:  -__- I have this product so I'm already underwhelmed by it. After looking at its primary ingredients, my thoughts were just confirmed. The ingredient list begins much like other drug-store conditioners. The base of the product is designed to give you great slip but that's pretty much where it stops, it seems like. To me, the product is a little bit watery for me, so if you're looking for something with great slip and ingredients, there are better choices on the market.

I crossed out ingredients 6 and 7 because the verdict is still out on the benefits of them. Actually, when I looked up the benefits of cucumbers on hair, I didn't find any substantial information on it either. The one consistent comment I saw said that cucumber is high in sulfur and silicon which helps to stimulate hair growth when mixed esp. with carrot and spinach juice. Which means, cucumber benefits hair when taken internally, so unless you're drinking this conditioner, I'm not sure if cucumbers is going to help at all lol. Needless to say, this conditioner will remain as my shaving cream until used up.

Hope this helps! Let me know what other products you would like to see in this series!

  1. But I LOVE YtC! lol!

I don't use it for detangling/combing/slip, I use it as a really light leave-in. I know that there are probably better products (read: products with better ingredients), but this works well for me and it's SO cheap for the amount that you get (if you use it as a leave-in). I wouldn't dare entertain this as a regular conditioner, because (like you said) it's too watery. Have you tried it as a leave-in?
