Meatless January: Day One

Today's DAY ONE!

I'm trying to gear up for success, but am a little behind! I meant to go grocery shopping yesterday, but by the time I woke up at 12:30pm, I knew traffic was already going to be too bad for me to go out, with it being a holiday.

Tomorrow I'm planning to go grocery shopping! Surprisingly, I'm excited. The only places I've been grocery shopping are places like Walmart, so tomorrow I'm going to be aiming to peruse a Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, and/or Trader Joes.

In order to help me be successful, I really want to make sure I'm knowledge in a meatless diet. I'm going to try my best to consistently tell you all the new things that I'm learning.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED SO FAR:
  • Fish isn't considered a meat. Therefore, technically, I can consume fish. Some distinguish fish eating vegetarians as PESCAtarians. However, again, I'm not doing this because I don't believe in eating animals, so I'm really not going to get caught up in the classification systems.
  • Unless you cut out all meat and dairy, you may not need to amp your vitamin intake. Everyone always says you HAVE TO eat meat, because it's the only way you can get protein. This is actually false. Though, taking multivitamins are encouraged, they aren't mandatory if you're not following the vegan diet. Eggs, dairy, nuts, peanut butter, beans, soy milk, grains, cereal and vegetables all can provide you with necessary protein. I will also continue to take my adult multivitamin gummies.

I just got back from going out to eat at Macaroni Grill with my family. Normally I get the pennne rustica which is a pasta with cheese, chicken, and shrimp, but today I went sans chicken and just got extra shrimp. I could taste the difference, but it was still enjoyable!
