Woe Is Me AND My Hair: New Year's Eve 2011

Here's my hair on New Years Eve. Earlier in the day, I had twisted my hair and set it on Curlformers. I was prepared for luscious spiral curls upon taking the curlformers off and though they were there for about 10 minutes, those luscious curls soon disappeared.

Despite my spritzing the curls with holding spray, my hair blew up to the size of a ballon. All I could do was shrug my shoulders and make it work.

Here are some pictures of the outcome!

I twisted the front and slid some Olive Oil Edge Control (I'm just about ready to review it!) on these edges and kept it moving!

As I started to reflect at how when I flat iron my hair it looks SOOOOOO good, and then once I've wrapped it or put rollers in, it blows up, here's what I came up with.

When I wear my hair straight, I also use non-water based products on my hair to help it maintain the style. So it was business as usual when I went to set my hair in the Curlformers last night. I used Coconut Pudding by Brendita's Body Works. Lovely product! BUT the primary ingredient is aloe vera juice, which is a humectant, and vegetable glycerin is listed soon after it; also a humectant.

Granted, it's not summer time, and I'm not sure how much humidity must be in the air in order for humectants to pull in moisture into your hair, but I think that product may have been the culprit.

My friend suggested I use grease, which the petroleum in it, which definitely keep out moisture, however... grease- #icannot. But I may need a "petroleum-like" product to hold me down. Literally.

Suggestions?
