Weekend Mexican Paradise= LOVE!
For several reasons I've really been subconsciously working on becoming more cultured and getting out of the "America is the only country that matters" bubble that many of us unintentionally live in.
One night 2 months ago, I randomly planned to go to Puerto Rico but when I went to book the trip, things just weren't working out right. At like 3am, I randomly clicked a link about Mexico vacations and VOILA, my sister and I had booked a 3 night trip to Cancun.
I studied Spanish for 8 years in school and told myself that after I took Spanish 3 in high school, I'd be fluent enough to treat myself to a trip to Mexico. Lol not sure why people allowed me to say that while being only in 10th grade with no job.
Nonetheless, my sister and I had a fab vacation! It was definitely my dream vacation and God really blessed! We stayed at the Westin resort in Cancun which was amazingly chic. Our room was somehow upgraded to a suite with balcony and ocean view. Waking up to that view was breathtaking! I cried when we left lol
There were many times on the trip where my "America is the only country that matters" mentality was challenged, and I quickly had to learn that life outside of American customs does exist, like when I refused to learn there system for street addresses and because of that, ended up walking 2 miles looking for a restaurant that was 18 kilometers away. Lol
The people were the sweetest people ever! So friendly and even friendlier once they realized we spoke Spanish. The men were very chivalric! Luggage was always carried; seats always held out for us; buses always stopped for us even if we weren't at the bus stop... I'm telling you, it was just all around a great experience.
Many people told me about the water conditions in Mexico. Because their water is unpurified, one sip of it will send you running to the potty BUT the hotel zone of Cancun is made for tourists and partly Americanized in that the water was purified and safe; no problem there!!!
Sigh. I AM going back! Lol I'm already looking at flights! Next time, I'm staying longer lol

Did you find you needed to know spanish to get around?
ReplyDeleteA little bit, but, with Cancun being a tourist area, most of the workers were bilingual. Even the bus drivers understood enough to point you in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteLooks SO fun and I LOVE the dresses you wore!
ReplyDeleteFabu, girl!
