Product Review: Tangle Teezer

I've had a habit recently of trying new things and then forgetting to tell you all *smacks hand*. It's only after I tweet a random thought about something and then get a response back, that I realize I've never posted.

Anywho, a few days ago I tweeted something along the lines of:
The Tangle Teezer and I are currently separated. I'm currently reflecting on our relationship to see if this calls for a divorce.

LOL here's a short/long version of why.

Sierra and I both bought Tangle Teezers a few weeks ago and were very excited. We succombed to the hype and figured we'd both give it a try. She loves it. And though, in the video above, I said it can be useful on dry hair, I didn't really see it as the *holy grail* product that everyone said it was.

Nonetheless, I continued using it, silently, before making my thoughts really known. I had seen everyone that got on the bandwagon, jump off just as quickly, as they reported split ends, increase in single strand knots, etc. However, I try my best to be my own person by not letting other people's reviews influence my consumership.

Fast Forward to most recently:
The Tangle Teezer is just... regular to me. Yes, it did help to detangle my dry hair surprisingly, but at the same time, a good wide tooth comb would do the same. The TT  hasn't done anything for me that a my wide tooth comb or Denman has done.

I don't like:
  • The sound when using it... It makes me nervous. It sounds like it's pulling my hair out.
  • The way it "fits" in my hand.... note the sarcasm. It's uncomfortable in my hand.
  • The increase of split ends that I've noticed since using it... When I looked at my shed hair the other day, just about every piece that came out had a split end.

I'm going to try to get my ends trimmed this week and stick to finger detangling for now. After a month of not using the TT, I'm going to see if I'm noticing a decrease in split ends. If so, then I will definitely get rid of the Tangle Teezer. I'll be sure to update you then!

  1. I read a lot of negative reviews and decided to skip it. SOmetimes, when I hear about a product and all of it's surrounding hype, I wonder, "But what if a regular old wide tooth comb works for me? Is theere something wrong with finger detangling?" Because that's what I do, and it seems to be going fine for me...

  2. Yeah -____-
I figured, despite all the hoopla, I would at least try it. At the very least, I figured it'd be something good to blog about lol.

Finger detangling and/or a wide tooth comb have worked well for me, so that's most likely what I'll be sticking to. I'm split-end prone somehow so I'm really trying to get to the root of that problem.

I've heard some people suggest seamless combs... Not sure what's so good about them, but may look into those. Not because I need to, just because I want to lol.

If it's not broke, don't fix it!

  3. I've heard that seamless combs have less of a tendency to snag. I guess the one with seams are akin to you having a chipped nail/ hang nail and then detangling your hair...you'd end up splitting it. Just my thoughts :)

And for the fit of the TT, I read somewhere that someone used a hair tie to hold it to their hand. Haven't tried that yet, but I'm not sure how much longer the TT and I will be working together lOl.
