School's Out (and permanently for some)

So, today was very interesting to say the least. Number 2 on the list of "Interesting Things That Happened to Me Today" would have to be that I found out that one of my students lives right next door to my parents and has been for 2 or 3 years. And considering the fact that I'll be staying with them for a week between moving out of my old place and moving into my new place, I found that so awkward! Turns out he is the grandson of our neighbor - a woman I consider almost a third grandmother to myself. So creepy! I told him not to come out of the house at all when I'm staying with my parents... lol.

But on a more serious note, today we found out about budget cuts, which means they are laying off 7-9 people. Though I love my job, my students, and my co-workers (and as far as I can tell, my students love me), I don't know if that's enough to save my job. The lady who was hired like 2 weeks ago got laid off today.

They said that most of the people getting laid off already know but they told her out of the blue after she got back from a field trip.

My co-workers are telling me not to worry, but how can I not? I don't have an education background, I'm not certified, and I'm the youngest on staff.

Last hired, first fired is the saying I've heard.
Well, I wasn't the last hired (the woman who got laid off was hired after me), but still. Everyone is saying that no one has said anything negative about me, so I'm probably safe, especially since I teach senior English - a class EVERYONE must take to graduate. But the other lady taught sophomore English, so that really brings me no comfort.

The only things comforting me are my hopes and prayers and the belief that I was placed in that school for a reason, and even if my time teaching is up, there has to be some purpose for why I was there.
Even if it was just to meet new people...

... which brings me to my next point: super cute guy started working at school this week. Seems pretty shy, but is very nice. I emailed him my number for an event tonight so if he texts me and we get to interact more, I'm pretty sure I can reel him in.... lol.  I've been single toooooo long!

Don't judge me.
It's cuffing season.
